While studying at Edinburgh University where he read English Literature, Fred ran a series of clubs such as Thunderball, Going Places and Misery as well as starting up his own graphic design company and publishing acid house fanzine Gear with his sister Camilla. In 1993 he moved to London to do an MA in Communication Design at Central St Martin's School of Art. During this time he continued running clubs such as Cheese and Impotent Fury, as well as writing for The Face and becoming a part-time tutor at St Martin's. On graduating he then worked for London-based design company Swifty Typographix and started Lemon Jelly with Nick Franglen in 1998. They released their first album lemonjelly.ky on XL Recordings in November 2000 to the joy of gardening program enthusiasts; their new album Lost Horizons is due to be released in September of this year and they will be touring the country shortly after.
