“It’s beautiful all year round and you never tire of the views. It’s just fantastic!”
Established five years ago initially as a flying school for aspiring pilots, HG Helicopters has grown to also specialise in scenic tours and charter flights.
From golfing breaks to shopping trips. lunch at a luxury hotel or a romantic mountaintop proposal, the HG Helicopters team will work hard to make sure your special day is everything you could dream of and more.
The convenience and speed of these luxury helicopters can make almost any adventure possible.
Fancy a round of golf at Royal Dornoch in the morning and a late afternoon tee-off at The Old Course St Andrews? Or how about a lunch or dinner dale at luxurious Knock Castle Hotel and Spa before being whisked away on a scenic tour over Loch Lomond? For the more adventurous there are heli biking trips where you can be literally dropped off at the most remote spots.
The choice is up to you!
Of course, for those extra special occasions such as popping the question there couldn’t be anything more romantic than a secluded beach or mountain top for a memorable proposal-a guaranteed “I do”!
For Chic, customer satisfaction is what it is all about.
“Where we come up trumps is that we offer a very personal service and we’ll do our utmost to make your day special. Customer satisfaction has been talked about a lot recently but it is often badly executed. We excel in customer satisfaction.
“I want my customers to keep coming back and that’s why I’ve been in business for 40 years.
“I want to have a successful business but for me the real buzz comes from having happy customers. Money doesn’t motivate me, customer satisfaction does.”
Ensuring all HG Helicopters customers are happy is a full-time job as the client base is so diverse.
As well as providing scent tours and special occasion trips, the business also caters for corporate clients who may be flying in briefly for a high-powered business meeting or are enjoying a deluxe stay in the Highlands at the likes of Skibo or Inverlochy Castle during the shooting season or other events.
Such clients are used to a first class service and would accept nothing less than the very best treatment.
It is perhaps testament to HG Helicopters’ professionalism that such clients return year after year. The firm has also whisked celebrities away on jaunts across the Highlands and further afield.
“A lot of it comes down to the little touches we include such as champagne or other refreshments or even just a copy of today’s newspaper in the helicopter. Clients really do appreciate that. All our aircraft are luxurious and they are always in immaculate condition.”
The helicopter trips are also ideal for corporate days out, especially as a reward for special achievers.
However, it is not just the glamorous side of the business that HG Helicopters excels in.
Having access to the most inaccessible of places – and there are plenty of those in the Highlands – the helicopters have also been employed to transport equipment to remote locations; provide aerial photography for land surveys for clients buying property in the area whether that is a building, an estate or woodland; deer counting: path constructor hill fencing and site inspections for developments in the region.
It has been a busy period for Chic and the Henderson family. Since setting up HG Helicopters, he also took over Knock Castle Hotel and Spa in Crieff three years ago and has been working flat out to make it a “destination venue” with fine dining and sumptuous accommodation as well as catering for weddings with up to 100 guests.
Knock Castle is also the perfect compliment to HG Helicopters with luxurious door to door trips available, especially now the hotel has received a four-star rating!
HG Helicopters also remains a flying school and aspiring pilots can train for their Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or simply enjoy a trial lesson.
Training is conducted in a Robinson R22 helicopter.
As well as flight training those aiming for the PPL must also complete a series of ground exams and tuition can be provided.
Where better to learn to fly than in the beautiful Highlands?
Next year Chic hopes to extend the business further with a helicopter based in the central belt and plans to increase his pilot pool.
Despite the challenging economic climate, the Henderson Group continues to hold its own but that is largely down to Chic’s personal drive – he learned to fly helicopters at the ripe age of 57.
“I’m passionate about all my businesses. I started my working life as an engineer and today I still like my business to run like a well-oiled machine.”
