OEG Offshore sets its sights on the renewables industry
As the worldwide renewables industry continues to grow, Aberdeen-based OEG Offshore believes that last year is the year for making its mark on the rapidly expanding market.
As a leading specialist in the design, build and rental of cabins and modules, OEG has an excellent international reputation for producing high quality units in the offshore oil and gas industry. Having recognised the potential for its services to be transferred to the renewables sector, the firm has already secured and delivered several deals for major offshore wind projects.
Among its successful ventures into the renewables arena is a £2.2m ill ion (USD $3.5 million) contract for the first phase of the London Array wind farm project, located in the outer Thames estuary.
OEG was contracted by Siemens Transmission and Distribution Limited to deliver 18 custom-built Local Equipment Room modules that house electrical switchgear, workshops and emergency refuge on the wind farm’s offshore substation platforms. A successful completion of this project saw the units completed within a short timescale and transported to Belgium for installation and hook-up at the offshore platform construction yard.
Craig Russell, commercial director at OEG, said: “The London Array project has been OEG’s largest contract win in the renewables sector to date and we are proud to have contributed to such a major project that will have a significant impact on the way in which energy is supplied in the UK.
“Siemens awarded the deal to OEG on the basis of our excellent reputation for supplying specialist modules within often very tight customer timescales and we met with this project expectation by delivering on time and on budget.
“Whilst the offshore oil and gas sector globally continues to be a major focus for OEG, we are very keen to roll out our products and services in the offshore renewables sector.
The skills needed for both industries in terms of module and container design and supply are very similar, and our ability to create bespoke solutions, drawing on over 25 years’ extensive experience, means we are well positioned to provide a flexible approach to each individual project.”
“The offshore renewable sector is an area of strategic growth for OEG and one within^ which our expertise and experience in the offshore oil and gas industry can be’ easily transferred, as demonstrated by our, successes in the industry over the past 12 months. We intend to expand our share of this rapidly-growing market during 201 I and will be looking to gain further contracts both within the UK and internationally.
“With the launch of our bases in Singapore, Houston and Perth over the past I 8 months, OEG’s international client base and on-the-ground presence has been steadily growing. We recognise that the renewables industry needs the same level of global support from service companies that is provided to the oil and gas sector and with this in mind, we are looking for our international bases to become involved in more offshore wind projects.
“We are currently in discussion with several operators that have plans for offshore turbine developments on the east coast of the US and anticipate the same level of interest from other regions where wind farm operators are planning to build.”
