John O'Groats mill and Cromwellian bridge
Submitted by Owen McCafferty on Sat, 2010-01-02The John O'Groats mill to the west of the main settlement contains three mills, built from 1750 onwards. The Cromwell Bridge (adjacent to the mill) , allegedly mid-17th century and constructed by Cromwellian troops is an elegant single-span rubble bridge spanning the mill burn. This bridge carries a track over the Burn of Duncansby to the west of John O'Groats Mill. John O'Groats Mill, Cromwell Bridge are listed under the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland. It is one of the oldest bridges still intact in the North East of Caithness.
