Submitted by Owen McCafferty on Mon, 2009-11-23
Caithness Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society supports local people affected by MS whether they are branch members or not.
The main activity of the branch is provision of two therapy groups who meet weekly broadly in line with the school terms at which physiotherapy and alternative therapies are offered free of charge to people who are affected by MS.
The Thurso Group meets on Tuesdays from 2 - 4 pm in The Cottage, Davidson's Lane, Thurso. For further information please contact Jen on 01847 890575.
The Wick Group meets on Mondays in the Arthritis Care Hall, Whitehouse Park, Wick. For further information please contact Julie on 01955 605799.
The group produces an informative quarterly newsletter and also provides support on its local helpline to anyone affected by MS including carers.
The local helpline is 01847 890575
MS Society Scotland (MSSS) going independent
he Caithness branch committee move that the Multiple Sclerosis Society in Scotland should be independent of the Multiple Sclerosis Society in the rest of the UK and should have its own constitution. Caithness branch chairperson Patricia Stanley said members will be writing to all Scottish branches of the society calling for an extraordinary general meeting to discuss the way forward. Also added:
"We are determined to continue to provide that support and we hope the community will help us through what may be a difficult time ahead, as they have in the past.
"If anyone would like to become involved in the work of the Caithness branch, either by attending one of the therapy groups or as a helper, or if they feel they have any other part they could play within our branch to aid our work, then we would welcome them."
Anyone who would like further information about the work of the branch should contact Mrs Stanley on 01955 609079.
