Reay Forest Estate, Achfary by Lairg

Reay Forest Estate, Achfary by Lairg

The Reay Forest Estate (120,000 acres) is in the remote and ruggedly beautiful North West Sutherland.

Fishing for salmon, sea trout and brown trout is available on Loch Stack and Loch More and for brown trout on the various hill lochs. There are magnificent beaches about 3 miles on from Kinlochbervie, at Oldshoremore, Polin and Sheigra and slightly further north, and off the beaten track, the beach at Sandwood Bay is quite spectacular. There is splendid hill walking throughout the Estate although we do ask visitors' co-operation in the stalking season, which commences at the beginning of August. Ben Stack, Ben Arkle and Foinaven all lie within the Estate.

There are two self- catering cottages available for rent within a few miles of Achfary Village. Achfary lies on the A838 Lairg to Laxford Bridge Road, 30 miles west of Lairg, 14 miles east of Scourie and 14 miles south of Kinlochbervie.

In addition to the salmon and sea trout fishings on Lochs Stack and More, the myriad of hill lochs on the estate provide hours of entertainment and exercise, and the estate can provide access to some of its remoter lochs by argocat if required. Fishing on the River Laxford may be available by separate arrangement.

Sea fishing or sightseeing trips can be arranged in the estate's own sea boats at extra cost, or for those just wanting exercise there are several Munros to climb or deserted beaches to stroll along all within easy driving distance of the estate lodges. Lodge and fishing from £4,000 p.w.

History:

Gualin was part of the 800 sq mile area known as 'Lord Reay's Country' - an area which included all of the parish of Durness and which was bordered by the parish of Tongue in the east and Eddrachillis in the south-west. The Duke of Westminster's estate, which boarders Gualin's western marches, is still known as Reay Forest today. Permits for numerous hill lochs in Scourie, Loch More and Reay Forest.
