The Fishermen’s Mission

Submitted by Owen McCafferty on Sat, 2009-11-28

We fueled up and headed to the Fishermen’s mission. What a friendly welcome we had. Towels were provided (without asking) so that we could dry ourselves off, our gloves were put into the tumble drier and we were able to purchase a good hot meal and hearty mugs of tea.

The young lady behind the counter wasn’t even going to let me mop the floor after us! We were not charged for the drying and I can recommend it as a place to stop – it turned out that the young man behind the counter was the one we had met on the street – it was such a welcome and helpful stop for us, they even recommended a bed and breakfast which was first rate.

The Mission holds a service once a month for the Scottish Episcopal Church, Worldwide Anglican Communion and invites all holiday makers to come and join them. Telephone the Mission on for the dates.

The Mission provides, shower and laundry facilities and is registered with the Highland Baby Friendly Service which means that breastfeeding is welcome.
Opening Hours of the Mission are:

Monday to Friday 8:30am to 9:00pm (last orders 8:00pm)

Note: The Fishermens’ Mission adjacent the sports field and close by the Culag hotel has now sadly ceased operation of its good but cheap cafe’. The note below penned by another TA subscriber is confirmed as being correct. There appears to be no plan to reopen the facility. The Fishermans mission is currently closed (May 2008).
