Close to Pitlochry, Blair Atholl is an ideal, quiet holiday centre in the heart of Highland Perthshire, with easy access to all major centres in Scotland within two hours or less by road. The village is famous for Blair Castle, the traditional home of the Dukes of Atholl and the Atholl Highlanders, Europe’s only remaining private army. There are some thirty fully-furnished rooms to see, as well as wonderful gardens and planned historic landscapes.
Just a ten-minute drive to the south is Pitlochry, a picturesque Victorian holiday town, with a famous Festival Theatre, two distilleries, hydro-electric dam and fish-ladder, and a busy shopping centre.
Blair Atholl caters for all, with shops, craft centres, a choice of places to eat out, a local folk museum and a working water mill. Around the village, there are extensive woodland, hill and riverside walks, and fishing can be arranged on both local rivers. The more energetic can enjoy pony trekking, mountain biking, and hill walking into the Cairngorms, soon to become Scotland’s second National Park. Just 400 yards from the Firs along the banks of the Rivers Tilt and Garry, is a charming 9 hole golf course.
