Success is built on safety for an Invergordon based firm specialising in inspection, repair and maintenance to the oil, gas and renewable energy sectors across the globe.

Ocean IRM was established in 2010 by Steve Hatch who already has more than a decade of experience and contacts within the oil and gas sector. The company’s management team has extensive experience and knowledge within the industry, and a reputation for providing their customers with the highest standard of safety, quality and efficiency.

Ocean IRM is part of the HS Ocean Group, which gives the facility to provide extensive proven services to the marine, petrochemical, industrial and nuclear energy markets.

Steve says business is already promising: “I’ve been involved in this industry since I was in my late teens and it’s a sector that I really thrive in. Safety is at the heart of everything that we do and I’m in the privileged position to have worked for many companies with very high standards so that I can now bring together all of that best practice, and ensure that what we offer is the best of the best.

“I’ve been inspired by some of the people I’ve worked alongside and I’ve been able to identify the weaknesses in how they operate. Having identified those weak links I am now in a good position to be able to transform them so that they become our strength.”

Ocean IRM has recently employed Jon Twitchin as rope access operations manager. Jon is also vice chairman of IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) putting the business in an excellent position to develop and roll out training in the future. The company’s long term vision also includes apprenticeships enabling school leavers to experience working in the sector, and eventually enabling them to work offshore (18 years old and over).

Born in Easter Ross, Steve’s work and travel has allowed him to build up global contacts and make the most of business opportunities: “We’ve already got staff and offices in Invergordon, Liverpool, Gabon in West Africa, Gibraltar, and three new facilities in MENA (Middle East North Africa) region being Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Abu Dhabi in UAE. We are in the process of setting up in Brazil, which we hope to be operational by the second quarter of this year. We tend to headhunt staff for Ocean IRM because I know the standard of expertise that is out there, and I want our company to offer state of the art technology and skills.

“Our business strategy has been specifically built on the foundations of health, safety and quality. We continually strive to achieve excellence in these areas and ensure that our core values of fairness and integrity are apparent in all our business practices. We are committed to the ongoing innovation of our practices and actively seek out new technologies that will help us to meet new challenges in our core markets and benefit our customers.”

Ocean IRM is a specialist support service contractor that offers a turnkey solution for all rig repair and upgrade projects. Having established close working relationships with other companies, it contracts in work from them as required enabling clients to use them as a single and reliable point of contact.

The company is actively exploring new areas of development by teaming up with manufacturers and suppliers of equipment and materials. Steve said: “This ensures that our customers are receiving the latest innovation and safety to a much higher standard than they perhaps would from our competitors. We offer an extensive range of inspection, construction, fabric maintenance and access solutions. We will continue to work with acute attention to detail in this to help create a safer environment within the industry whilst striving to remain cost effective.

“We recently established Wind Power IRM as part of the group to focus on the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. Wind Power IRM has been active in the UK offshore wind farms during 2011 and has some lucrative opportunities to expand to other areas within Europe in the near future.

“We have a strong vision for the future and I know that the strength of the team around me will ensure that we keep ‘building on that.”
