Highland Ribs Ltd

Business has expanded substantially for Highland Ribs, which is introduced a new cabin RIB to transport surveyors and technicians to various renewables related installations

Inverness-based Highland Ribs may only have been established two years back but it has certainly made a big splash.

Set up originally by Colin Barber, a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster and Advanced Powerboat instructor, to provide skippered RIB (rigid inflatable boat) charters in the Moray Firth, Loch Ness, and the West coast, the business has expanded substantially to provide a wide range of support services to the marine sector, particularly the fast growing renewables industry.

Renewables-related support has become such a key aspect of Highland Ribs that Colin is investing in a new “Redbay” Stormforce 11m cabin RIB to transport engineers, surveyors, technicians and supplies out to the various installations planned for the Moray Firth.

The Stormforce 11 has serious commercial credentials, having already made its name among security, customs, police survey and ferry operators. Available from spring 2012, this 12-seater RIB will also be an “office from the office” complete with full internet access, cooking facilities and toilets enabling passengers to work safety, securely and in comfort while offshore.

Explained Colin: “In terrible conditions offshore it is reassuring to know that you have the fantastic seakeeping of the 11m hull looking after your passengers, with the safety and comfort of a cabin. Arrive at your destination or return home at the end of a long day warm, dry and relaxed, having experienced the joy of what has been termed ‘the finest RIB available today’.”

Highland Ribs is also the official Highlands and Islands agent for US manufacturer Versadock.

This modular dock and pontoon system has established itself as the most innovative in the world today, providing creative solutions to commercial and private clients. The high quality floats form the cornerstone of the system, providing infinite configurations including working platforms, marinas, helipads, docks and slipways.
