Achieving three prestigious accolades in the past year has brought due recognition to a Highland company that, until now, has been steadily, but unpretentiously, building a reputation for sourcing and distributing some of the highest quality shellfish in the land.
From a modest base in a small industrial park on the outskirts of Dingwall, Keltic Seafare has navigated its way to the top restaurants in London, supplies the best-known celebrity chefs and has this year gained a royal warrant.
Such is the dedication to quality and attention to detail that Keltic Seafare has put in place that it is also one of Scotland’s success stories in the highly competitive European seafood market.
From securing its first customer in the UK capital, the famous River Café, the company has now moved on to supplying around 140 other London clients and an additional 75 top chefs or celebrated eateries across Britain.
Then there’s the lucrative French market, the Spanish demand for top-quality shellfish and Keltic Seafare also supplies the local market, although not on a large scale.
The family-owned business was set up 22 years ago. It started by distributing hand-dived scallops, then moved into langoustine, which is now the single biggest species it handles. Live and fresh langoustine are carefully transported from the Strathpeffer Road Industrial Estate base, as are its other products including crab and some seasonal items such as chanterelle mushrooms, which are in high demand in the best restaurants.
