Rooted in the business community of the North of Scotland, Stronachs provides its clients with clear commercial legal advice.
Our business clients come from a range of sectors, from energy and construction to food and drink. We are fortunate enough to work with entrepreneurial start-ups, established family companies and dynamic multi-nationals. In each case we aim to get to know our clients’ business and to work closely with them to help them achieve their goals. At the heart of this approach is a commitment to providing expert legal advice and excellent standards of client care.
Particular specialisms we offer from our Inverness office include:
Dispute resolution: some degree of conflict is inevitable in business. When it arises, our focus is on seeking swift, effective resolutions. Sometimes this involves making effective use of the Courts but we also recognise that on occasion a private, less adversarial forum is more appropriate with a view to preserving a relationship. As such, we have also built up extensive experience of commercial mediation and arbitration.
We also represent clients in inquiries and matters involving industry regulators.
Company advisory work: we advise on a full range of company related issues. This includes guiding clients through the start-up of their business through to the expansion phase which might involve acquiring another business and securing external funding. Particularly given the high proportion of family owned enterprises in the North, we have expertise in assisting clients ensure the smooth succession of their business.
Employment law: we act for both employers and employees. Stronachs can assist with the setting up of contracts of employment, policies and procedures but also with the thorny issues of dealing with disciplinary matters and absences, unfair dismissals and redundancy situations. We also have particular experience taking clients through the complexities of TUPE transfers on the sale of businesses or the transfer of services.
Property: a business’ premises are often its biggest asset but can also be its biggest liability. Ensuring that transactions involving land and property are dealt with properly is therefore of great importance. We help clients with their property interests, whether that is the purchase or lease of their own premises or the acquisition, sale or lease of land and buildings in the course of their business.
Our Agricultural and Rural Team represents the interests of many family farming businesses in the North of Scotland. We regularly advise clients in relation to purchase and sale of agricultural land, tenancy issues, environmental and subsidy issues, the formation and dissolution of businesses and succession and tax planning matters. Homish Leon is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in agricultural law and is a regular practitioner in the Scottish Land Court and both he and fellow partner Greg or Mttchett are recognised within the industry as agricultural law experts.
Our Renewable Energy Team has wide ranging experience of dealing with renewable energy projects and we provide legal advice to developers, landowners and tenants in relation to wind energy, hydro-electric and other renewable enterprises and are well versed in joint venture arrangements, leases and option agreements. We can also advise on funding issues. The team prides itself in having knowledge and experience from many different perspectives on renewable projects of all kinds and its ability to give legal advice from any point of view.
