SHENAZ…One visit means many more..
GLASGOW is often called the curry capital of Britain and the Shenaz was one of the first Indian Tandoori restaurants to open in the city in 1963, presenting Indian cuisine for the very first time to many of its appreciative customers.
The combination of subtle, fragrant and exotic flavours delicately blended to create the finished dishes soon saw Indian food becoming a major part of eating out in Glasgow, something which has continued to develop over the last 50 years. Some of the Shenaz’s original recipes for the more traditional dishes-which first became popular in colonial India-proved to be so popular here that they are still on the menu, but after much consideration a whole host of new and exciting dishes were introduced as well, with innovative and mouthwatering results.
The years of experience in this restaurant have resulted in an extraordinary number of satisfied customers, both local and from further a field, who make it almost a point of honour to check whether an old favourite-sometimes of 30 or 40 years ago-still lives up to their expectations, which it invariably does.
However, side by side on the menu with these classic dishes is a contrasting dish, with innovative tastes and recipes producing some unique combinations.
The friendliness of the staff is frequently commented on, whether in terms of their knowledge and their willingness to give advice to ensure that every customer has a delightful dining experience.
With restaurants of this quality there’s no doubt that Glasgow will remain the curry capital for some time.
