First class bakery offers complete package
Leachkin Bakery in Inverness has a first-class reputation for making delicious homemade goods using only natural, locally sourced ingredients.
Kevin Macleod started the business from his kitchen at home, where he still bakes today. But recently he set up as a limited company and opened shop called DK@LB in the Victorian Market.
“Before we opened DK@LB people could only buy our produce at Exclusively Highlands events and it was clear the demand was there so it made sense to open a shop,” Kevin said.
“Business is going incredibly well. In fact we are looking into opening an American deli followed by a second bakery with a seating area.”
Once opened DK@LB became an instant hit with the lunchtime trade as it sells soup and sandwiches to take away as well as lunch boxes, fresh bread, biscuits and cakes.
They even make gluten-free, egg-free and sugar-free goods, which they also supply to the health food shop in Baron Taylor’s Street.
But as well as selling goods direct to the customers, Leachkin Bakery provides bespoke special occasion cakes and complete catering packages for weddings, parties and company events. “We can cater for up to 200 and we take care of all aspects of the catering, not just the food,” he explained.
“For children’s parties we do cupcake classes in the house with the kids and we provide all the food and even clear up afterwards. It’s a complete package so the parents can just sit back and relax.”
The catering side of the business continues to expand, which is another reason why Kevin is looking for additional premises.
Leachkin Bakery’s bespoke design service is proving just as popular, particularly for wedding cakes.
