The soft sounds of the radio play in the background, a lady, nestled comfortably into a leather couch, effortlessly pores over Homes & Gardens, across the room a young man scours the sports pages of a local newspaper; it’s a perfectly natural scene that we might expect in any home, but today it’s a dental waiting room.

Castle House Dental Practice is based at Fairways Business Park in Inverness and with a broad range of treatments it caters for the modern client. The practice offers regular dental care, cosmetic dentistry, implants, facial rejuvenation and even tattoo removal. A quick survey of the waiting area reveals magazines to suit abroad range of ages and tastes, and a comments box, showing a real commitment to customer care.

Kevin Leeming’s practice moved here in 2006 and together with a dedicated team (including his wife Anita) they have created a caring environment offering preventative and sympathetic treatments. It is a busy practice with five dentists including a new member of the team, Lee McLeman. Originally from Stornoway he qualified in London before moving to Inverness to work under the tutelage of the practice.

Anita says it’s all about making people feel comfortable: “We’re a very professional practice and have found ways to keep the fun and friendship in that. As a team we gel well together and ensure that our patients have the very best experience possible. Some of our patients have been coming to us for many years. They often bring us home baking, books, and tales of their holidays.

“I feel very proud to be part of such a hard working, professional team. Kevin has retained many of his patients since he began working in Inverness 18 years ago and it’s lovely for him to see his patients who were then children, now coming to him as young adults and parents themselves.

“We have different treatments available here from teeth whitening and Botox for a special occasion, and cosmetic dentistry or tattoo removal to improve overall appearance.

“We treat more than 100 people a year with Botox. Here we work with it to enhance a person’s face and reduce the lines on the forehead or the crow’s feet by their eyes so that they feel they have the confidence to shine. One young man came to us for help to reduce a pronounced line on his forehead that made him look permanently angry. He was thrilled with the result and astounded at how differently people react to him now. It’s not about taut, expressionless features. Botox® and fillers can be a short appointment and we have many professionals who book in for a session in their lunch hour and then go straight to an afternoon meeting. Prices are affordable and vary between £200-£300 for a consultation and treatment.

“A winning smile says it all; in addition to routine family dentistry our dental team offers cosmetic options and orthodontics. Kevin also offers implants, the real alternative to dentures. Implants allow spaces and gaps in the mouth to be filled without affecting other teeth. Patients are more confident and comfortable with an implant than a denture. We pride ourselves in making smiles look as natural as possible.
“One of the nicest things about restoring a perfect smile is that people simply become happier, healthier and smile a whole lot more. We’re always very sensitive to the needs of our patients, so we encourage them to tell us how they feel about the health of their teeth and gums. Once we have the full picture we can give advice, or offer the best treatment.”

Beautiful smiles are readily available at Castle House Dental Practice and it’s been proven time and again that smiling is good for us (it uses less energy and fewer muscles than frowning!) The team talk to their patients with enthusiasm and a great deal of community spirit by all accounts. Last year they raised £400 for Comic Relief by gunging Kevin (cold baked beans were the favoured option) and doing a sponsored fast. A team of six also put in hours of training before completing a 10k run raising just under £800 for the Highland Hospice.

The practice moved from Castle Street in Inverness to the larger and more easily accessible premises (wheelchair access from car park to dental chair) at Fairways Business Park, and has continuously sought ways to match what clients need.
