Camperdown Wildlife Centre

Discover the wonderful world of animals at Camperdown Wildlife Centre, Dundee. Meet our regular residents the European Brown Bears – an extremely rare and endangered species from the wilderness of Russia. Other highlights include the elegant Lynx, Wolves, the Pine Marten – one of Britain’s rarest mammals – and our playful Ring-tailed Lemurs.

Camperdown is loved by visitors of all ages. You don’t need to be young to have a great day out here – just young at heart! Camperdown Wildlife Centre is located within the beautiful Camperdown Country Park, and is home to over 50 species of animals, birds and reptiles, many of which are threatened or endangered in the wild. Highlights include Lynx, Wolves, Snowy Owls, Ring-tailed Lemurs, Marmosets and European Brown Bears.

Don’t miss the fabulous Bear Broch Visitor Centre – a custom-made replica of an ancient Scottish stone dwelling, the only building type likely to have existed when bears last roamed wild in Scotland! Visitors can watch the bears at play in their splash pool through the Broch’s large viewing window. The Broch also houses artefacts and objects relating to the history of the animal.

Our Otters have recently taken up residence in a new enclosure, complete with two deep interconnected flowing pools, with shallow beach edges for feeding and playing, just as they would in the wild. A viewing building allows visitors access to colourful education panels, and the opportunity to view these nocturnal creatures in their sleeping quarters using our hi-tech cameras or ‘otter-cam’, as we like to call it!

Camperdown Wildlife Centre hosts various events throughout the year, which are both educational and fun. Events include Easter Fun Day, ‘Zoofest’ and Conservation Days. A festive favourite is the ‘Meet Santa & His Elf’ event, where visitors can post their letter to Santa in his grotto, and enjoy a mince pie or two!
