The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery is Scotland’s oldest public museum and is home to a wide range of amazing artefacts – from meteorites to mummies.
Based on the leafy campus of the University of Glasgow, the museum and art gallery are the legacy of DrWilliam Hunter – a pioneering obstetrician and teacher who was once Physician Extraordinary to Queen Charlotte. The Hunterian is one of the top five collections in the country.
Reopened in May this year after a £750,000 facelift, the Hunterian Museum is based in the Gilbert Scott Building, it is the perfect place to reconstruct the pasts of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. Visitors can also discover dinosaurs and explore 500 million years of evolution.
The Hunterian Art Gallery, based on Hillhead Street, includes paintings by artistic icons such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Chardin and also includes a permanent display by James McNeill Whistler. The Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery offers visitors a fascinating and fun glimpse into the world’s past history for all the family.
