Lairg has shops, pubs restaurants, canoe and sailboard hire.Inverness, the Highland capital and Loch Ness are an hour’s drive. John O’Groats, Cape Wrath and Britain’s highest waterfall are ideal day trips. There are superb sandy beaches at Golspie (20 miles), a Nature Reserve at Loch Fleet (15 miles), a Whisky Distillery which can be visited at Brora (25 miles) and a fairy tail Dunrobin Castle (21 miles). Golf, hill walking, bird watching and swimming are also available in the area.
At Shin Falls just a few miles down river from lairg. A leaping salmon making it’s way up to spawn in the upper reaches of the river. Spectacular Carbisdale Castle near the Shin Falls. One of the world’s grandest Youth Hostels. Dunrobin Castle further north from Lairg. Ancient seat of the Dukes of Sutherland.
