Sharvedda – Bed and Breakfast

Sharvedda, Strathy Point. An area steeped in history. The name “Sharvedda” comes from the Norse for Sea Fishing Place or Station.

This modern family bed and breakfast and working croft, sits overlooking Strathy Bay and it’s imposing cliffs, home to puffins and many other birds. In Spring expect to see pet lambs running around, hoping that you will feed them!

Looking toward the cliffs from Sharvedda you will see the local Salmon Fishing station with its array of poles ready to hang the nets for drying and mending.

Strathy is approximately a 30 minute drive to Scrabster where you can catch the Orkney Ferry. Patricia, who runs the Bed and Breakfast and working Croft with her husband, greets you with Tea or Coffee and her wonderful home baking.

You will find yourself relaxing in Patricia’s spacious lounge which has many interesting craft items on view (see the collection of decorated goose eggs), as well as a selection of books and information to help you plan your next day’s activities. Relax in front of a real peat fire!

Meals are served in our cosy Kitchen/Dining Room which is heated with a traditional Raeburn providing warmth as well as cooking facilities. Always a focus point in any Highland Kitchen! The area is a haven for Bird watchers and outdoor enthusiasts. You can see everything from Salmon Fishing and Peat Cutting to Britain’s rarest flower the Scot’s Primrose or Primula Scotia to give it its formal name.

Going to your room, be sure to check out the “Gallery”. All along the hallway on both walls, you will find superb examples of Patricia’s (prize-winning) skill at Cross Stitch, Japanese “Bunka” Embroidery, Quilting, Candlewick, Blackwork Embroidery, Ribbon Embroidery and Crewel Embroidery.

They have plenty of storage space for bikes, sporting equipment, etc. We also have a lockable shed with a pulley suitable for hanging wet gear. There is plenty of room to park in our car park.
