Ullapool is the main Highland community linking the north west of Scotland (Sutherland and Caithness) to the west of Scotland (Wester Ross) while providing the ferry point to the Outer Hebrides – Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.

Ullapool is nestled on the shores of Lochbroom about 1 hour North of Loch Ness and Inverness airport. Calmac sail from Ullapool to Stornoway (Isle of Lewis). Lewis is the largest of the Western Isles with beautiful sandy beaches. It is the perfect base to discover Ross-shire, Cromarty, Sutherland, The Black Isle and Inverness (where the nearest Air, Rail and Bus Links are). The Highlands of Scotland Tourist Board boasts some of the highest rates of repeat business in the country. Ullapool is perfect as a holiday centre to explore the highlands of Scotland and you will also enjoy the Highland hospitality in the pubs and hotels in Ullapool.

Ullapool is a mecca for all things musical. The Loopallu festival takes place each September. The festival took place with acts ranging from Echo and The Bunnymen to King Creosote. Another annual festival is the Ullapool guitar festival which takes place in October. Ullapool’s grid plan layout, designed and built in 1788 by Thomas Telford, makes it easy to navigate round the picturesque streets. The harbour is also the departure point for ferries to Lewis. Further North, boat trips can be taken from Ardmair to Isle Martin for nature walks and bird-watching.

Fishing enthusiasts are spoiled for choice with sea, river and loch fishing available. Sea fishing by boat is available at Ardmair, north of Ullapool. Permits for river fishing are available at Lochbroom hardware near the harbour. Find out about the history of Ullapool and the Lochbroom area at the award winning Ullapool Museum and Visitor centre.
