Sustainability & Timber Technologies
hri-architects has developed national expertise in new timber technologies in construction and is regularly consulted on local timber and sustainability issues.
We have completed a ‘suite’ of buildings which have developed the use of new types of treatment for locally sourced timber; offices for the Forestry Commission at Smithton in Inverness and Huntly in Aberdeenshire.
“These buildings are now included in design guides as examples of good design and timber innovation.
“The design approach and concepts behind these buildings were further developed in a major government ‘co-location’ building in Golspie, commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage.
“Most recently, we have completed the new Centre for Energy and the Environment for the University of the Highlands and Islands at North Highland College in Thurso that featured extensive use of cross laminated timber and GLULAM, and achieved the Highest BREEAM (Environmental Assessment) score in the UK for a Higher Education building”.
