Happy and productive
Healthy and happy individuals are generally more motivated and have low absence records. Employees who feel valued at work are also likely to be more productive and remain with the business.
“Scotland has an ageing population with a growing proportion over 50,” said Catherine Lavelle, an independent occupational health adviser, with Highland Occupational Health Support Services. “People are living longer, but now are having to work longer too. “This will present significant health challenges for businesses in the future.
“So, the bottom line is, if you improve the health of your workforce you improve the health of your business.”
Highland Occupational Health Support Services was established in 2012 to provide advice, support and guidance to SMEs across the Highlands and Moray. It looks at the interface between work and health and covers all areas that can arise during the course of employment, investigating the conditions that may create risks to health.
“SMEs are more likely to feel the impact of employee ill-health and even a small investment in workplace health can pay big dividends for your business in the long-run,” Mrs Lavelle added.
“If you are unsure whether you have occupational health risks or how your business would benefit from occupational health services, we can come to your workplace and carry out a needs assessment free of charge.”
