An Inverness based recruitment firm is celebrating an increase in turnover and driving forward a vision for next year.

The firm, working under the brand name of DH Recruitment and Driver Hire, operates from a base at Longman Drive. It specialises in providing temporary and permanent staff for the logistics sector throughout Scotland, and it can also provide construction workers, labourers, plant operators and administration staff for the industrial sector.

Mark Astley-Jones bought the local franchise in June last year. He says he’s ready to step it up a gear: “The core business is already very successful and we excel in offering solutions to staffing needs. Because we’re a local franchise we are contactable 24 hours a day every day of the week. We don’t operate via a call centre, if you ring our number you will get one of my staff in the Highlands, and we’ll always do our best to meet your needs.

“It’s very satisfying to be able to help companies who find themselves short-staffed or working below capacity because of staff illness or holidays. We can provide a wide range of experienced staff even for short periods of time. We have a regular job that takes only four hours to complete but to that company the assistance is invaluable. “We’re already well known for providing logistics staff and we want to build and expand our database of workers and clients. We are also able to supply administration, catering, and cleaning staff. We have recently invested in a Gangmasters Licence which allows us to supply labour to the agricultural, forestry and food processing sectors. We’re keen to maintain the good working relationships that are already in place and to branch into new areas where there is a need for short-term cover or permanent placement.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to help someone out in a staffing crisis. Last year we had an urgent call to supply four forklift operators for a major food producer in Moray. We were able to get staff in pace the next day and all four in place within 48 hours. Having a reliable and quality bank of staff to call on puts us in a superb position to conduct business and build on our reputation.

“Our staff range in age from 17 years old to 70. They are put through a rigorous selection process so that I can guarantee they have the knowledge, competency and skills to provide a first class service to our clients. Throughout the festive period we supplied many staff to local and national parcel delivery firms to help them meet the seasonal peak in their business. This method of working enables firms to keep their manpower costs down; they only have staff when they really need them so effectively it becomes a pay as you go solution.

“In 2011 we were called to a local estate to help with some really urgent weed control in their game crops. We took a team of eight people out to that job with 24 hours’ notice. It’s really invigorating to get that kind of call because the estate desperately needed extra manpower at short notice and we were thrilled to be able to provide it!

“At times I also take on driving and other jobs with our clients so that I have first hand knowledge [Mark’s background is in the IT industry] of what is expected from my employee bank, and because it’s great getting to know more about the nature of our clients business.”
