ake the traditional route to the Isle of Skye crossing from Glenelg to Kylerhea
A GREAT DAY OUT! Drive through the mountains, take the original ferry crossing to the Isle of Skye, see the Cuillins, drive back to the mainland over the Skye Bridge and visit Eilean Donan Castle. We promise this will be A DAY YOU WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER …whatever the weather !
Some people use the Glenelg Ferry to get to and from Skye, but many just come for a great day out. The crossing through the swirling tide-race of Kylerhea is an experience in itself and the spectacular scenery, historical sites and abundant wildlife make the journey that loops through Glenelg and South Skye well worth the effort.
The ferry is run by the Isle of Skye Ferry Community Interest Company. We are a community run company and we work to maintain the unique Glenelg-Kylerhea ferry the ‘Glenachulish’ as a ‘Scottish National Treasure’. The Glenachulish is the last working example of a turntable ferry of this kind left in Scotland. We want your ferry crossing to be truly memorable, and hope the spectacular views, the wildlife and the unique ferry experience make your day special.
You can find out more about the Isle of Skye Ferry CIC in the LIGHTHOUSE at the top of the Glenelg jetty. Please call in, have a look, enjoy a cup of coffee, maybe buy some ferry souvenirs and find out how you can help us to maintain this National Treasure. You can also become a member of our community interest company. As you visit ‘Glenelg – Skye Ferry’, you may find interest in following listings . . .
