With a long history stretching back to 1875, Redmayne-Bentley is one of the UK’s largest independent private client stockbroking and investment management firms with over 30 offices nationwide including Nairn.
The Highland branch opened in 1994 but last year marks a special milestone for branch manager, William Wordie who took over the reins of the Nairn office 10 years ago.
Reflecting on his time at Redmayne-Bentley, William Wordie said: Over the 10 years I’ve been managing the branch there has been an explosion in the range of investments. Individuals are now offered opportunities in individual commodities from agriculture to industrial metals and there is the opportunity to invest in the currency markets alongside hedge funds and/or structured products. The range of questions we get has widened, as investors are looking at variations to traditional shares.
“My baptism in the industry occurred one month after 9/11 and over the last 10 years we have witnessed stock market highs and lows, and an economy that has gone from boom to bust.
“Our expertise lies in steering a course through these periods to help individuals meet their investment requirements.”
In the last decade, the Highland branch has doubled in size with demand from investors seeking a higher level of income than from traditional savings.
Mr Wordie continued: “We’re here to help private individuals with alternative means to savings other than holding cash within a bank account and offer returns through various investment strategies including company shares or a collection of shares available as a fund which lowers the risk profile.
“After 30 years of expansion of credit now is the time when individuals should focus on savings including retirement planning. At Redmayne-Bentley we’re positioned to offer that support and advice.
“While times are worrying at present we have experienced similar conditions in the past and if the funding crisis teaches us anything it is that one needs to have a cushion of savings to carry us through these tough times.”
The price of investments and the income paid on them can fall as well as rise. All investments involve risk and you may not gel back the full amount of your investment and it may fail altogether.
