There is an enormous range of activities for visitors to Helmsdale and many places to visit. Finding things to do will absolutely not be a problem during your stay at Balvallioch.

Suisgill is the pivot for many glorious walks, enjoyed doubly by bird watchers who are in for many surprises! The estate also has an historic landmark in Baile an Or, the site of the great Sutherland Gold Rush of 1869. Although there is little likelihood of striking it rich, Baile an Or is a Mecca for gold panning enthusiasts who, through this absorbing pastime, enjoy fully the beauty and timelessness of the Highlands.

Golf too, is available locally and guests are most welcome at the Helmsdale Golf Club. Its great Highland charm and tradition is beautifully depicted in the award winning Timespan Heritage Centre which tells the story of the area from its earliest times and is a fascinating source of historical information. There is a wide range of activities for visitors to Helmsdale, and many places to visit.

You may want to stay at Balvallioch, a charming shepherd’s cottage, available for rental throughout all the seasons in this wild and glorious Sutherland setting.

Helmsdale rests at the mouth of one of Scotland’s greatest salmon rivers, which offers excellent fishing to visitors on the Association Water. Permit are available on a daily or weekly basis. Trout fishing on the many local lochs attracts fishing enthusiasts from all over Europe – most of whom return year after year.
