There is a small information centre in Balmacara Square with orientation and interpretation panels, walks leaflets and an interactive touchscreen computer programme, including an entertaining crofting game. The centre has wheelchair access, a touch screen terminal with a history of the area and leaflets.
Start your visit at the Balmacara Information Centre where detailed information is available from a touch-screen display to orientate people in Balmacara Estate and encourage them to explore the area. Visitors can discover more about secluded, fascinating Balmacara Estate & Lochalsh Woodland Garden area at the small Visitor Centre at Balmacara Square, where an interactive CD-ROM, guides to the extensive footpath network and other local information are available. The Visitor Centre is located within the recently restored farm steadings beside the old millpond. There are also craft workshops and a small delicatessen within the Square complex, an excellent spot for a picnic. Visitors can discover more about this area at this interpretation centre.
A small fee is requested for use of this facility. The picture bottom of this page shows the village mill pond at sunset. Homecoming Pass is also available.
How to get there:
Balmacara is approximately 3 miles east of the Kyle of Lochalsh just off of the A87. From A87 Inverness to Kyle. Access from the north is off the A890 from Lochcarron. There is a carpark at the Balmacara Square Visitor Centre.
