Ashleigh’s galloping ahead with business
With a life long passion for horses, it should come as no surprise that when the opportunity came up for Ashleigh Campbell to run her own business it would be an equestrian one!
Since setting up Castle View Stables, Oldwick, last year, the 22-year-old’s business has gone from strength to strength. Pony-mad youngsters from across Caithness have been galloping to Ashleigh’s riding school over the past year keen to develop their skills or just to have fun.
“I just decided to go for it and it was nice to have won a runners up place,” Ashleigh said.
However, accolades are nothing new to Ashleigh. While achieving her Equestrian HND at North Highland College in Thurso four years ago, Ashleigh was named Student of the Year and Equine Learner of the Year.
During the HND programme, Ashleigh also passed her British Horse Society Assistant Instructor exam which she has put to good use opening her own riding school.
“After college, I did work in the industry for a while at other yards but I decided that it wasn’t for me. I wanted to come home and open my own riding school.”
It was a decision that has paid dividends for the young businesswoman. Ashleigh has 20 riding school ponies at Castle View catering for all levels including learners and more experienced riders.
As well as developing their skills at the school, youngsters take part in local shows, events and demonstrations as well as competing at Castle View’s own trials complete with prize giving.
The business may only have celebrated its first anniversary but Ashleigh is loving every minute of it. “I’m flat out a lot of the time but it’s great fun and the kids just make it miles better.”
In addition to the riding school, Castle View Stables also offers a small livery service and Ashleigh plans to develop the business further with an indoor school.
