Fishing is a major sport in the area with a very active angling club which welcomes visitors, although sailing, football, tennis and basket ball can all be enjoyed here. What really surprised me was the quality of the Countryside Centre in Lairg, excellent interactive displays, indoor and outdoor activities for children and lots of information on local archaeology etc. There is also a Countryside Ranger based at the centre and this is the place to go for detailed info on the area.
Visitors are welcome to join in the many different activities carried out in Lairg. Throughout the year you can find a variety of activities at the community centre such as: Carpet Bowls, Country Dancing, Ceilidh’s (every Wednesday in the summer), Fly Tying courses and much more. Lairg also has tennis and basket ball courts and a football club.
Loch Shin is beautiful and places such as Shin Falls are well worth a visit. There are also surprises such as: The local Tailors – a very traditional shop supplying made to measure Scottish Tweeds and fashion clothing for Ladies and Gents. The interior of the shop has not been modernised since 1936 and is a real step back in time.
